HSA Strengthens Strategic Alliances in Meeting with the OAS Secretary General

On March 15, 2025, a Key Meeting Between HSA and OAS Secretary General Dr. Luis Almagro Took Place in Washington D.C.

The headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C. hosted a significant meeting between the Hispanic Social Assembly (HSA) and Dr. Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS. The purpose of this gathering was to introduce HSA to key organizations and highlight the urgent need to address shared challenges in Latin America, including poverty, inequality, exclusion, and malnutrition.

During the meeting, Alejandro Suárez, president of HSA, provided a comprehensive presentation on the multilateral platform’s plans. He emphasized that close collaboration between local governments, producers, and international organizations is essential to implementing effective solutions to the region’s pressing issues. This approach strengthens HSA’s strategic alliance with the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Local Government Associations (FLACMA), an entity representing over 16,400 cities across 33 Latin American countries committed to promoting municipal development and governmental decentralization.

The partnership with FLACMA allows HSA to access an extensive network of municipalities and local governments, enabling the implementation of projects that directly impact the most vulnerable communities. This synergy is crucial for comprehensively tackling these challenges, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and fostering inclusive, equitable progress throughout the region.

As an outcome of this meeting, a joint plan was agreed upon to secure funding for 60 projects that HSA has prepared for investment. These initiatives cover critical areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and food security, aiming to improve the living conditions of the region’s most disadvantaged populations.

HSA reaffirms its commitment to serving as a bridge between local producers and governmental and international institutions, facilitating the implementation of public policies that enhance the social and economic well-being of Hispanic communities. This meeting with the OAS stands as a testament to the positive impact HSA strives to create in the region, tirelessly working toward a more prosperous and just future for all.
