On March 11-12, 2024, the Inaugural Summit “Hispanic Voices for Human Rights” Was Held at the OAS Headquarters in Washington D.C.
The Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C. hosted the inaugural summit “Hispanic Voices for Human Rights,” spearheaded by Helene Villalonga, president of the Multicultural Association of Activists Voice and Expression (AMAVEX). This event brought together over 60 organizations dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights within the Hispanic community.
The summit addressed critical issues such as shelter and human trafficking, featuring contributions from medical experts, scientists, religious leaders, academics, and representatives from federal entities like the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Congress. The presence of Dr. Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS, as co-host emphasized the event’s significance and the organization’s commitment to human rights in the region.
The Hispanic Social Assembly (HSA) played a prominent role in the summit, reaffirming its dedication to promoting and defending the human rights of the Hispanic community. HSA utilized this platform to strengthen strategic alliances and collaborate on initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of Hispanics in the U.S., focusing on protecting their fundamental rights and promoting holistic well-being.
Notably, Helene Villalonga’s contributions were pivotal. As an associate member of HSA and its representative for Institutional Relations, her tireless work and leadership were instrumental in ensuring the success of this collaboration.
This summit not only marked an essential milestone for human rights advocacy but also reinforced the collective commitment to uplifting the Hispanic community.
